About Clem

Clem Newton-Brown was elected to the Parliament of Victoria as the Member for Prahran in November 2010.  

He is the Parliamentary Secretary for Education.

Clem has also previously served in elected office as the Deputy Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 2000-2001.














Clean Up Australia Day on the Yarra River



Clem was born in 1967. He lives in Prahran with his wife and their three children. His interests include scuba diving, cycling and timber boat restoration.

Clem was educated at St Kevin’s College and Monash University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws.

Prior to his election, Clem worked as a barrister specialising in planning law and operated a series of small businesses, including:

  • the first Yarra River water taxi service;
  • BBQ Boats; and 
  • a café on an island under the Southgate footbridge.
